The harbour is about 300 yards away from the cottages and offers moorings, boat hire and the option of arranging sea angling trips with a local skipper - the Tope fishing here is particularly good, although you are advised to check available dates with any local skipper in advance
The Mull of Galloway is now an RSPB Nature Reserve and the views beside the lighthouse are stunning (see Webcam). On a clear day one can see the Isle of Man and Ireland. The hills of Galloway on the far side of Luce Bay are usually visible in any case, but the overall feel is that of being on an island. Seals and dolphins are frequent visitors to Luce Bay, whilst the local woods are home to numerous species of birdlife, mammals and even lizards
Within Drummore the local bowling club welcomes visitors and there is also a children's playpark. Two hotels within the village provide meals, and there are a number of shops. The beaches around the area are quiet, clean and with good views, many have a slipway, and some also have a barbecue area.
For the more adventurous who fancy testing their driving skills, why not try Galloway Tanks. They are at Garlieston nr Wigtown and give you the opportunity to drive a number of ex-military vehicles.
The sunrise and sunset over the bay can be spectacular, and on clear nights the number of stars in the sky has to be seen to be believed, especially during the winter months.. The area is becoming increasingly popular with artists and photographers who appreciate the light and space around us, and some fine examples of local artist's work can be found within the cottages. Perhaps not unsurprisingly, the area was choosen by the producers of the television series '2000 Acres Of Sky' to stand in for the fictional island featured in that series. As anyone who has ever visited the Rhins will tell you, we have a lot more sky than that.
