FOR THE GARDEN LOVER

Drummore provides a perfect base for garden lovers.

Ardwell Gardens is close at hand too, and well worth a visit. About 8 miles north of the cottages, near Sandhead with its wide beaches, stand the Kirkmadrine Stones - possibly the oldest Christian monuments extant in Scotland, while closer to hand are the ruins of Clanyard Castle, the ancient Breastworks across the Mull, and numerous standing stones.

As well as Ardwell The area is a treasure trove for garden lovers.

Logan Botanic Gardens is one of the National Botanic Gardens of Scotland. It is one of the most exotic gardens in Scotland. The exceptionally mild climate allows an array of tender, exotic plants to thrive outdoors all year round.

Logan contains many small gardens, each with its own individual character.

The Walled Garden has a large selection of chusan palms and tree ferns alongside unusual shrubs, climbers and tender perennials. A large area of Woodland Garden stretches to quite a height. A shelter has been built where visitors can enjoy fantastic views over Luce Bay and the surrounding area

Logan house garden can be accessed from the botanic agrdens

Described as one of the best newly created gardens in recent times situated in a commanding position with spectacular views over Luce Bay and The Mull Of Galloway is Glenwhan Gardens.. The focal point of the garden centres around two small lakes where there is a collection of wild fowl to be discovered. Peacocks, red squirrels, and many birds live in the garden.

Hard to believe that this beautiful 12 acre ornamental garden was only begun in 1980, hewn from a bare hillside covered in bracken and gorse.
The warming effects of the Gulf Stream allows exotic plants to thrive, with large collections of interesting trees and shrubs from around the southern hemisphere. Some of the exotics include embothrium from Chili, eucalypts, rhododendrons and hydrangeas which flourish amongst this maze of hilly plantings.
A peaceful haven with seats and winding paths for all to enjoy.

Another impressive garden is Castle Kennedy near Stranraer.

The gardens are extensively landscaped with terraces, mounds and avenues, all of which were created by men and horses, and extend to more than 30 hectares
